When I was in fifth-grade, my babysitter introduced me to the wonderful world of Gilmore Girls. If love at first sight can happen with TV shows – and I believe it can – then I instantly fell for the fast-talking wit of mother and daughter Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. My eleventh birthday wish list was dedicated to getting every single season of the show on DVD so I could watch it and watch it and watch it… Now if you have somehow made it this far in life without enjoying the clever humor of the Gilmore girls and the rest of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, then you’re in luck. Gilmore Girls is (finally) available for instant streaming on Netflix. You officially have no excuse to delay your enjoyment any longer – and men this applies to you too. Even my uncle still asks me what I think happened to Rory after the series finale. However, if you still need convincing, here are ten reasons why Gilmore Girls needs to be your newest Netflix obsession:

  1. The characters are real and fascinating. By the middle of the first season you will care deeply about them and wish you could grab a cup of coffee with them – and trust me, they drink a lot of coffee.
  2. Everyone in Stars Hollow will also have you hysterically laughing constantly. “Oy, with the poodles already!”
  3. Keeping up with the Gilmore’s pop-culture references is both an intense challenge and the best way to learn quick witticisms about that movie you totally pretended you saw.
  4. You will never complain about your own family dinners again after watching Rory and Lorelai suffer through Friday Night dinners with Lorelai’s pretentious – but also loving – parents, Richard and Emily.
  5. No matter how indecisive you may be about your own future career plans, you will feel better after watching the very quirky Kirk work every job – literally every job – he possibly can in Stars Hollow.
  6. Deciding whether you are Team Dean, Team Jess or Team Logan is a far more serious and respectable decision than considering the battle between Team Edward and Team Jacob, Peeta and Gale, or whatever young adult dystopia the kids are into nowadays. (Team Jess all the way!)
  7. There is no bad mood that a little time spent with Lorelai and Rory cannot cure.
  8. Stars Hollow diner owner, Luke Danes, was the grumpiest and most lovable man on television long before Ron Swanson ever ordered literally all the bacon and eggs in Pawnee on Parks and Recreation.
  9. The show is jam-packed with inspirational moments and life lessons – you should never keep anything in your closet that you would be embarrassed to be wearing in a car crash.
  10. There will never be a better mother-daughter bond on television then the best friendship between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.
